Volcanic monitoring is essential for understanding the dynamics of volcanoes and mitigating the risks associated with their eruptions. Among the various disciplines used in monitoring, geochemistry plays a key role in analyzing changes in the composition of gases, thermal waters and volcanic deposits. These parameters make it possible to detect variations in magmatic activity, assess the state of the hydrothermal system and improve the ability to predict eruptive events.

Geochemical techniques include the analysis of volcanic gases in situ and by remote sensing, the measurement of isotopes in thermal waters and the characterization of mineral deposits generated by volcanic emissions. The evolution of these methodologies has improved the accuracy in detecting changes in volcanic systems and in identifying patterns that precede an eruption. The integration of geochemical data with other approaches, such as seismology and geodesy, has significantly strengthened volcanic monitoring worldwide.

This session will bring together experts in volcanic geochemistry to discuss the latest advances in monitoring techniques, share case studies and analyze strategies to improve the prediction of volcanic activity. Through the exchange of knowledge and experiences, the aim is to strengthen collaboration between researchers and monitoring agencies, promoting the development of more effective tools for volcanic risk mitigation.
