Topic 13.
New resources opportunites
More than 500 million people live around active volcanoes on the planet. Despite the dangers and risks they pose, volcanoes offer multiple resources for the societies that live with them (geothermal energy, soil for cultivation, materials for construction, geotourism, tangible and intangible cultural heritage). For this reason, work related to the opportunities for new resources offered by volcanic landscapes is necessary.
It is vital to assess the tourist potential of the new volcano, fulfilling the criteria of conservation, accessibility, and safety. It is necessary to provide the infrastructure that must be developed so that local companies can have a unique tourist product. Active volcanic areas are one of the poles of attraction for international and national tourism. Since the beginning of the eruption, thousands of people have already accessed the island to contemplate this geological process, and 9 out of 10 people who visit La Palma have among their priorities seeing the Tajogaite volcano.
